Harmony test4/15/2023 ![]() What is included in the Harmony appointment? The Harmony test is a type of test that analyses this DNA in a sample of your blood to assess the risk of: When you’re pregnant, your blood contains fragments of your baby’s DNA. What is the Harmony Prenatal Screening Test? Although the risk of Down’s syndrome increases with age, most babies born with Down’s syndrome are born to women under 35. Some genetic conditions run in families while others, like Down’s Syndrome, typically do not. ![]() Harmony is more accurate than traditional tests, can be performed as early as 10 weeks in pregnancy, and results are generally back within 7 – 10 working days.Īppointments are 45 minutes to an hour long and include a viability scan and a blood test from the mother’s arm. The Harmony test can also screen for the sex chromosome, confirming your baby’s gender if you would like to know the sex of your baby Further screening can be done for the Sex Chromosome Aneuploidy Panel. The test is used to screen for Downs syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome. There is no increased risk to the pregnancy with the screening test, such as miscarriage. I also paid the subsidised rate of $87 for my first gynae consultation and ultrasound scan. The Harmony Prenatal screening is a non-invasive DNA-based prenatal blood screen where the fetal DNA within the mother’s blood is analysed. The nurse told me the subsidised OSCAR test is $170+ and subsidised Harmony test is $370+. I paid for my subsidised OSCAR test and Harmony test today. The screening consultation nurse will then arrange all the tests for you. Then you can decide if you want an OSCAR test or Harmony test or both. Only a KKH gynae can refer you to go for a screening consultation. The polyclinic will then arrange for an appointment to see a gynae at KKH. To get the subsidised rate at KKH, you have to visit a polyclinic first and get the dr at the polyclinic to refer you as a subsidised patient to KKH. If you factor in the private gynae consultation rate, it would probably cost about the same as doing it at Thomson Medical. That is excluding the gynae consultation. If you search through the motherhood forum, I think the KKH Harmony test is about $800 for private patient. To do the Harmony test at KKH, you can call up KKH to make an appt as a private patient. Hang in there and take each test as one step at a time. But I understand your worry about the risk of miscarriage.ĭo take care of yourself either way, and try to remain positive as stress will affect your little one too. I’m guessing that’s why your doctor is recommending an amnio because it’s 99 percent accurate. With Harmony and other NIPT tests, a positive result would still mean a mother has to go through either the amnio or CVS to make a definitive decision and be absolutely sure. If you are thinking about the latter, the only true diagnostic tests are the amniocentesis or CVS. For the former, it doesn’t matter come what may, and the Oscar is enough because there are risks involved in the amnio or CVS, and hence it may not be worth the risk to go for more invasive testing. It depends on if you intend to keep your baby no matter what the outcome or result is, or is considering to terminate on medical grounds if your baby is really very sick. I have been told and did my research into the Oscar test that there are many false positives. Sorry to hear that you are in this situation.
